We’ve made a few changes – we will no longer be publishing a separate post for photos, but will be linking a Google Photos album at the top of each blog post. Hopefully that means it’s easier for you to browse through photos and comment if you’d like 🙂
This post is a bit of a different format, since we spent most of July apart! Use these buttons below to skip to the section you want to read, or just read the whole thing in sequence 🙂
Wei-Wei: After picking up my Canadian passport, I took the bus down to New York City!
I really wanted to spend some time alone in New York. It’s a city that has always been inspiring to me, and familiar because I’ve visited it so much while living in Montreal. Jonny and I have always considered solo trips as part of our travel, and after 6 months in Asia spending basically every minute together, I thought New York would be a perfect place to solo trip for a few weeks.
Of course I was excited to do everything the city offers: spend time with my best friend Rachel, hustle and dance, thrift/vintage shop, see art; but I was also excited to practice spending time alone, to be autonomous and independent, and practice regulating anxiety. And I definitely did do all those things!
Obviously, I spent a lot of time with Rachel.

I saw some wonderful art!

I got to go to Dance is Life, which is a wonderful, joyous dance party!

In New York, I started to feel like primary colours were reaching out to me, everywhere I went. I started to take notice of accidental-but-maybe-not arrangements of the three primary colours in random places on the street. Am I obsessed? Maybe a little, maybe a lot. I’ve continued to try to spot them – they make me happy!

And yes, I went thrifting – a lot. I love going to the thrift store and simply trying on anything that looks fun or silly or interesting – it doesn’t cost anything to try it on!

Jonny: After the reunion, I came back to Montreal and enjoyed not being a tourist!
I chose to spend most of my July in Montreal enjoying a familiar city, spending time with friends and taking some time to train Locking more regularly. It was nice to have some serious alone time, and to have a chance to settle into a regular daily routine.
I also got to enter Family Affair (a 2v2 Locking/Waacking battle) with my good friend Krystina. The whole weekend was a blast, with guests from out of town – the Locking community basically partied for three days straight.
My 3 roommates! Left to right: Pippin, Felix and Godzilla

Annalise, Celine and I reunited over Dosas!

Went to Taylor’s show in Chinatown! She made a great old man.

On July 24, Jonny drove down with Julien, Taylor, and Stewart for NY Hustle Congress!
It was lovely to be reunited! It was a little less lovely to relocate from quiet Upper West Side to our hotel in Midtown, but the proximity to the Hustle Congress venues made it worth it to us.
It was wonderful to be reunited with each other and our friends! And of course, we danced our butts off every single night.
We don’t really want to upload a bunch of videos to this blog so if you want dance videos, check out the Google Photos album!
We went to Empanada Mama, which has killer food and a bit of a chaotic vibe at 4AM. We stayed out til the sun came up and were exhausted the next day, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Veronica told us to ice our feet to help us get through 6 days straight of dancing and it was a bit painful.

Louis Orlando, an OG hustler we have learned from a lot, has constantly said that he used to be Jonny’s size in the 80s and that he has a perfect shirt for Jonny, if only he could remember to dig it out from his closet. He finally remembered and Jonny got this wonderful shirt out of it.
