We’re now both officially unemployed! We were so darn excited to see our friends in Montreal. We flew in on Friday, September 29 and took an Uber from the airport directly to Echo House to go to a hustle session. It was so wonderful and surreal seeing our old friends, our old studio, our old neighborhood so soon after landing. It felt almost like we had never left.

For the first half of our stay, we stayed with Charlotte & Yuta & Zola (their cat). We saw friends, cooked, played games, spent some solid boulder time, did some iPad drawing of Zola, and had Julien & Taylor over for dinner and games.

We had a charcuterie picnic in Parc Laurier and walked around our old neighborhood and reminisced. We had a D&D wrap-up session to officially (sadly) end our campaign and talk about all the could-have-beens.

We went for bike rides to admire Eastern Canadian fall colours (a lot more red than out west), had a raclette lunch on a Tuesday afternoon with Charlotte & Yuta, and went for a fall colours hike in the Gault nature reserve with Julien.

Peak boulder vibes at Charlotte & Yuta’s house.

Okay, Julien and WW are not sheltering in place in this pic. They are pretending to be boulders for Charlotte.

We went to Toronto over Thanksgiving weekend for a battle!

Jonny was the battle guest at Funky Vibrations, and he also entered the 2v2 all-styles battle with Krystina, which was amazing and electric to watch. We were graciously hosted by our friend Ali & MishMish (his cat).

Wei-Wei went to a pop-up vintage market and met her favourite sewing Youtuber!

We got sick with a cold while we were in Toronto. We came back to Montreal and spent a large part of our second week in Montreal resting and recovering.

A few days later, we moved in with Julien & Taylor & Gandalf (their cat) which was delightful! We have been loving staying with our friends. It’s been a good exercise in balancing our own needs and boundaries with our desire to spend time with people we love – and we’re happy to report that it has been going very well so far!

WW – I am very proud of my track record so far sticking to my mental health and wellness habits!! I am feeling really optimistic and positive about travel looking forward.

We went to the Wiggle Room to see a burlesque show, had brunch with friends, made delicious meals with Julien & Taylor several times, went to hustle Fridays, and also participated in a day-long celebration of Krystina’s 30th birthday. It involved brunch, an escape room, dinner, and also a hustle social that we taught an intro hustle class at!

We saw a dance show (highly recommend seeing Shitshow if it ever tours), then made takoyaki at Charlotte & Yuta’s place, and sang Youtube Karaoke at home.

Then all of a sudden, it was our last week in Montreal! We were still feeling tired and recovering from sickness. It went by way too quickly.

Wei-Wei had dinners with her old coworkers from Unity, and Jonny went to locking practice and saw Chromeo with the Lockunity gang.

And now we’re off to New York City!

Thanks so much to Charlotte & Yuta, Julien & Taylor, and Ali for hosting us in Montreal and Toronto. We’re so grateful to have spent this precious time with you all!

We’re going to miss Montreal and our wonderful group of friends so much. À la prochaine, mes amis!
